7.  Plasma HCII activity

HCII activity in mouse plasma was determined by measuring the amount of human thrombin inhibited in the presence of dermatan sulfate.

Reaction mixtures (100 µl final volume) contained the following:

Mouse plasma (2 µl)
Dermatan sulfate (50 µg/ml)
Human thrombin (16 nM)
After 1 minute, the amount of residual thrombin activity was determined by hydrolysis of a chromogenic substrate.  The HCII activity is expressed as the mean + 1 SD (n = 9-11 animals of each genotype).
