9.  Effect of the IgG on IXa and Xa clotting times

To identify steps in the intrinsic and common coagulation pathways that are inhibited by the monoclonal IgG, we determined clotting times initiated by either purified factor IXa or factor Xa in the presence or absence of the IgG.

The IgG had the net effect of decreasing the apparent factor IXa clotting activity by 84%, while it decreased the apparent factor Xa clotting activity by 37%.  The predominant effect of the IgG, therefore, appears to occur at the level of factor IXa.
