Antithrombin and heparin cofactor II are "suicide substrates" that inhibit thrombin by forming stable 1:1 complexes.  Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) accelerate complex formation by template (antithrombin) or allosteric (HCII) mechanisms involving different thrombin exosites.
